How to stop doubting God.
Have you ever had your doubts about a certain area in your life? You’re not alone. If you’re wondering if or how to stop doubting God there are scriptures that show that God is in control.
Everyone has times of doubt. Maybe you don’t know how you’re going to get money for a utility bill. Maybe you’ve received some bad news from your doctor. While these things might cause us to doubt if everything is going to turn out ok we can have faith knowing that God is in control.
But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.
James 1:6
The first step how to stop doubting God is to recognize that doubt is real. Doubt is having a lacking of faith in something or someone. When we accept Jesus as our Savior we can have faith that everything will work out for his glory. Humans with limited abilities can’t see what is going to happen in the future.
With this fear of the unknown sometimes we question if everything is going to turn out alright.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.
Proverbs 3:5-8
We need to recognize that we aren’t in control of everything. We can dot our Is and cross our Ts but there are always unforeseen circumstances. We should accept the fact that some things are just out of our hands.
When we begin to see that we can’t do it all on our own we can humble ourselves and ask God for his help. Pride causes people to believe that they have all the answers. We can believe that we can make everything work out how we want it. Or that we are wise enough to solve all of our problems. Although, as the verse states above we shouldn’t lean on our own understanding.
We shouldn’t even consider ourselves wise. This doesn’t mean you should have a low self-image. It just means we should remember that all wisdom is given from above. Without God giving us the wisdom we would be left to our own desires.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:11-13
Believing that the Bible is true we know that God’s plans for us are always for our good. God cares about our welfare. He wants us to have faith and hope for the future. Because all things rest within the sovereign rule of God we can have faith knowing that God has his eyes on us.
Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these
Matthew 6:25-34
The flowers of the field don’t worry that they won’t get sunlight. The birds don’t worry or doubt that they will find food. This is because our father, God, provides all that we need. While we might not see results as fast as we’d expect them that doesn’t mean God isn’t moving. He’s setting the plans in motion to bring us good things.
Flowers and birds don’t doubt that God will provide for them. We, being God’s children, should have even more faith because he always takes care of his faimly. If you ever have seasons of doubt you’re not alone. Grab your Bible and start reading verses that show that God loves us. Read verses that show that he is in control no matter the circumstances.
When you enter seasons of doubt speak the truth from God’s word and thank him for taking care of you. by using all of the tools God has provided us with we can grow and learn how to stop doubting God.
