Right now you might be saying, “What free gift??”
The Free Gift we are sharing with you has a priceless value that can’t be found anywhere else. You can’t buy it anywhere and you can’t earn or work for it yourself. The Free Gift is eternal life through Jesus Christ. “For God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 KJV
Why do I need this gift?
The fact is that 1 out of 1 people die. You never know how much time you have left. “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” Hebrews 9:27 KJV. Another fact is that you will spend eternity somewhere. The first place is called Heaven. It is a perfect place where there isn’t any sin or suffering. There is endless joy where you will dwell in the presence of God. The second place is Hell. Hell is a place where there is eternal suffering. That means forever. Hell was made for Satan and his angels. Those who reject Jesus in this life are sentenced to Hell for their sin. Jesus says in the Bible, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh unto the Father by me.” John 14:6 KJV. Without salvation through Jesus Christ, we can’t go to heaven.
Why does this matter to me?
If someone broke into your house and stole your stuff you would expect the judge to punish the criminal. He broke the law and is deserving of punishment. If the judge let him go without any restitution we wouldn’t consider the judge to be just. In the same way, God is the ultimate judge. Sin is what it is called when we break God’s Law. Let’s see if you can pass the following test.
- Have you ever made anything in your life more important to you than God?
- Have you ever made an idol or worshipped something in your life that isn’t God
- Have you ever used God’s or Jesus’s name carelessly?
- Do you remember the Sabbath and keep it holy?
- Have you always honored your Father and Mother?
- Have you ever murdered someone?
- Have you ever committed adultery?
- Have you ever stolen anything?
- Have you ever lied?
- Have you ever coveted anything that was someone else’s?
If you answered yes to any of those 10 commandments you have sinned. It says in the Bible “All have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God” Romans 3:23 KJV. Everyone who has ever lived, except for Jesus, has sinned at one time or another. We are all guilty of breaking God’s law. “For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” Romans 6:23 KJV. The Bible tells us that the wages of sin is death. Because of our sin we are deserving of death. This is not just physical death but eternal death. Death is separation from the only source of life, God. God is completely holy which means that sin can’t exist in his presence. If we die in our sin we will be permanently separated from God in Hell. There we will be forever in torment.
Your Free Gift
If all you know is that you are sentenced to Hell for your sin you should be surely miserable. The great news is that God in his mercy and love has provided us a way out. Even though we are sinners and deserving of God’s wrath he gave us an opportunity for our sins to be forgiven. “But God commended his love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 KJV. God is a righteous judge. If you remember before we said the wages of sin is death. For your sin to be paid for someone had to die.
God sent his one and only begotten Son Jesus to suffer and die for your sin. Jesus, being God in the flesh never sinned. He lived a sinless life, yet suffered and died for your sin. God accepted his Son’s death as a payment for the sins of the world. After three days God raised Jesus from the dead. He now sits at the right hand of the Throne of God.
The great news is that you can accept this gift of salvation if you trust on Jesus as your personal Savior. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:9-10 KJV
By believing in Jesus’s death, burial, and resurrection and believing that his sacrifice paid for your sin you too can be saved. It’s not a special prayer that you repeat, and it’s not something that you work for. Having faith in Christ’s finished work on the cross saves you from your sin.
